Craft × Tech Tokai Project 2026 Tokyo Exhibition ありがとうございました。

およそ1年にわたり参加してきた「Craft × Tech Tokai Project」が、このたび東京での展示をもって一区切りを迎えました。

今回のプロジェクトでは、伊賀組紐を1200本使用した照明作品「Yamollo」の制作に携わらせていただきました。

伝統工芸である伊賀組紐と、南アフリカ出身アーティスト Atang Tshikare 氏の感性が出会い、言葉や文化の垣根を越えて、一つの作品として形になったことは、私たちにとって大変貴重な経験となりました。

制作を進める中では、組紐という素材が持つ新たな可能性と向き合いながら、多くの挑戦と学びがありました。

アタン氏が選んだ組紐の中には、現代の和装業界では使われていないデザインも含まれていました。

20年、30年の時を超えた組紐が、令和の時代に新たな価値を持って蘇り、若い職人たちの経験や挑戦へとつながったことも、このプロジェクトの大きな意味の一つだと感じています。

これまで受け継がれてきた技術や想いが、現代の表現や新しい価値観と交わることで、伝統工芸にはまだまだ大きな可能性があることを実感しました。

そして、アタン氏の卓越したデザイン力によって、伊賀組紐が世界に通用する魅力を持つことを改めて感じました。

アタン氏だからこそ生み出せた色使いや組紐の新たな表現。

それらが一つのアート作品「Yamollo」として生まれ変わり、日本ではまだ見たことのない組紐の可能性を示す作品となりました。

プロジェクトに関わってくださったすべての関係者の皆さま、応援してくださった皆さま、そして展示会場へ足を運んでくださった皆さまに、心より感謝申し上げます。

今回の展示はゴールではなく、新たなスタートだと考えています。

伊賀組紐が持つ魅力や可能性を、より多くの方へ届けるために。

そして、伝統を守るだけではなく、未来へつなげていくために。

Closing the Craft × Tech Tokai Project 2026 Tokyo Exhibition

The "Craft × Tech Tokai Project," which we have participated in for about a year, has now come to an end with its exhibition in Tokyo.

For this project, I was involved in creating the lighting installation "Yamollo," which uses 1,200 Iga braided cords.

The encounter between the traditional craft of Iga Kumihimo and the sensibilities of South African artist Atang Tshikare transcended language and culture to form a single work was an extremely valuable experience for us.

During the process, I faced many challenges and learned from the new possibilities of the material Kumihimo.

Among the braids selected by Mr. Atan, there were designs not used in the modern traditional Japanese clothing industry.

One of the great significances of this project is that the braided cords, which have transcended 20 or 30 years, have been revived with new value in the Reiwa era, connecting to the experiences and challenges of young artisans.

By intersecting the techniques and spirits passed down so far with modern expressions and new values, I realized that traditional crafts still hold great potential.

And I was reminded once again that Mr. Atan's outstanding design skills have the appeal of Iga braided cords that can compete on a global scale.

A new way of expressing colors and braided cords that only Mr. Atan's works could create.

These were reborn as a single artwork called "Yamollo," showcasing the possibilities of braided cords that have never been seen before in Japan.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in the project, to everyone who supported us, and to everyone who visited the exhibition venue.

I believe this exhibition is not the goal but a new beginning.

To bring the charm and potential of Iga Kumihimo to more people.

And not only to preserve tradition, but to pass it on to the future.

Ito will continue to take on new challenges, creating new value for Iga braided cords while sharing their appeal both domestically and internationally.
